The SCEI Story

About Us

We nurture and educate children and young adults with special needs, helping them reach their maximum potential. We promote independence and improve quality of life for all our students in a secure environment so they can lead meaningful lives.

Located in Karachi, Special Children’s Educational Institute (SCEI) is Pakistan’s first specialized institute for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. SCEI is the brainchild of Saima Haq, who serves as its founder and president.

The institute started as home school with one student, a girl with Down Syndrome. As more students joined in, so did the teachers.

Soon there were enough students and teachers in the home school, and the institute was formally established in 1996 in Karachi’s Defence area. In addition to the classrooms, a vocational centre under the label “Sunflowers” was also setup to facilitate the older students.
